SUMMARY:GeoAI in Geospatial Research: Challenges and Opportunities
DESCRIPTION:Since its introduction in 2017\, Geospatial Artificial Intelligence (GeoAI) has grown rapidly in remote sensing and GIS research. This technology does not just introduce a new topic; it changes how we approach geospatial science by prioritizing predictive power over scientific understanding. This webinar reviews the history of AI in GIS and highlights recent major accomplishments. We will explore new research opportunities and discuss the challenges that could hinder GeoAI or impact the future of geospatial research and education. \n\nView Recording\n\n\n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Prof. May YuanAshbel Smith Professor of Geospatial Information Science at The University of Texas at DallasMay Yuan is the Ashbel Smith Professor of Geospatial Information Sciences in the School of Economic\, Political\, and Policy Sciences at the University of Texas at Dallas\, with all her degrees in Geography: B.S. 1987 from National Taiwan University\, and M.S. 1992\, and Ph.D. 1994 from the State University of New York at Buffalo. SUMMARY:Earth Observation for Disaster Intelligence: From Satellite Data to Rapid Response
DESCRIPTION:Earth Observation for Disaster Intelligence: From Satellite Data to Rapid Response presents the growing role of satellite-based Earth Observation (EO) in disaster risk reduction\, monitoring\, response\, and recovery. The lecture highlights how optical\, SAR\, and other satellite data can provide timely information for identifying hazards\, mapping affected areas\, detecting changes\, and assessing disaster impacts. It will showcase operational applications and case studies from the MBRSC lab\, including floods\, landslides\, earthquakes\, volcanic eruptions\, glacier-related events\, and forest fires. The lecture will also discuss the role of the International Disaster Charter and Sentinel Asia in providing rapid satellite data and supporting coordinated humanitarian response. SUMMARY:Drone mapping: at the crossroad of remote sensing\, artificial intelligence and big data analytic
DESCRIPTION:The technological development of sensors and electronic devices in the last decade has allowed the acquisition of higher-resolution and larger datasets with drone platforms in several applications. Despite the initial challenges in handling larger amounts of data\, this has paved the way for developing more advanced data processing techniques and delivering higher-quality and (near) real-time information to end-users. \nIn this presentation\, some of these solutions will be presented\, showing how the integration of different domains\, such as remote sensing\, artificial intelligence and big data analytics\, has led to efficient products in several contexts. Urban monitoring\, road and infrastructure inspection\, indoor mapping and patrolling for search and rescue are some of the applications that will be considered. It will also be presented how the combination of edge and remote processing\, or the integration of “hand-crafted” and deep learning techniques\, can often be the solution to deliver more efficient and fit-for-purpose solutions. \n\nView Recording\n\n\n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Prof. Francesco NexFull Professor in Real-time Geospatial AI at University of TwenteProf. Francesco Nex is currently a Full Professor in the Geoinformatics Department at the University of Twente\, holding the chair of real-time Geospatial AI. SUMMARY:AI-Driven Time-Series InSAR for Ground Deformation and Geohazard Monitoring
DESCRIPTION:This webinar presents an AI-driven approach to time-series Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) for monitoring and understanding Earth surface deformation and supporting geohazard assessment. It will provide an overview of the principles of InSAR and multi-temporal analysis\, including the extraction and interpretation of deformation patterns from satellite radar observations over time. \nThe webinar will explore how Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning can be integrated with InSAR time-series techniques to improve the detection\, characterization\, classification\, and prioritization of deformation signals and anomalous areas. Particular attention will be given to AI-based approaches for identifying persistent and emerging deformation hotspots\, distinguishing significant deformation patterns from noise and measurement uncertainties\, and transforming large-scale satellite observations into actionable information. \nPractical examples will be presented to demonstrate the potential of combining Sentinel-1 SAR data\, time-series InSAR processing\, and AI techniques for monitoring phenomena such as land subsidence\, ground instability\, landslides\, and other geohazard-related deformation processes. The webinar will also discuss challenges related to temporal variability\, atmospheric effects\, spatial and temporal resolution\, data quality\, and the generalization of AI models across different geographic and environmental conditions. \nFinally\, the webinar will highlight the potential of AI-driven InSAR as a scalable Earth Observation framework for continuous deformation monitoring\, early detection of abnormal surface movements\, geohazard assessment\, and the development of intelligent early-warning and decision-support systems. \n\nRegister Now\n\n\n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Dr. Hind Zeyada Abdel Hamid EbrahimAI & Satellite Remote Sensing Research Scientist at National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences (NARSS)Dr. Hind Zeyada Abdel Hamid Ebrahim is an AI and Satellite Remote Sensing Research Scientist at the National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences (NARSS)\, Egypt.
